The BOD helps ensure that the Department is operating within all the proper legal requirements. The total number of BOD members allowed to serve at one time is eight (8).<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"p1\">To qualify as a member of the BOD:<\/p><ul><li class=\"p1\">18+ years old<\/li><li class=\"p1\">Citizen or Legal Resident of the US<\/li><li class=\"p1\">Pass a criminal history and criminal background check<\/li><li class=\"p1\">Own property in the fire district<\/li><li class=\"p1\">Pay a fire tax that supports the Department<\/li><li class=\"p1\">Please note:<ul><li class=\"p1\">No more than three (3) active volunteers on the board at one time.<\/li><li class=\"p1\">Neither the Fire Chief, Assistant Fire Chief can serve on the BOD.<\/li><li class=\"p1\">A husband and wife (spouses) cannot serve on the BOD at the same time.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><p class=\"p1\">Meetings:<\/p><ul><li class=\"p1\">Monthly<\/li><li class=\"p1\">First (1 <span class=\"s1\">st <\/span>) Thursday of each month<\/li><li class=\"p1\">Held anywhere in Catawba County.<\/li><li class=\"p1\">Minutes kept by Secretary and distributed in 48-hours.<\/li><li class=\"p1\">Open to the public and the press.<\/li><li class=\"p1\">Special meetings may be called five (5) days in advance by text, email, phone\/voicemail, fax, USPS mail, or in person.<\/li><li class=\"p1\">Emergency meetings may be called by two (2) BOD 24-hours in advance by text, email, phone\/voicemail, fax, USPS mail, or in person.<\/li><li class=\"p1\">Closed meetings may be called by two (2) BOD for issues related to personnel, real estate, and legal matters.<\/li><li class=\"p1\">Quorum is five (5) members.<\/li><li class=\"p1\">Standard Agenda:<ul><li><p class=\"p1\">Call the Meeting to Order<\/p><\/li><li><p class=\"p1\">Approval of the minutes of the last meeting, annual &amp; regular<\/p><\/li><li><p class=\"p1\">Approval of the Treasurer\u2019s Report, both annual &amp; regular<\/p><\/li><li><p class=\"p1\">Election of Board Members, annual meeting<\/p><\/li><li><p class=\"p1\">Election of Board Officers, regular meeting after annual meeting<\/p><\/li><li><p class=\"p1\">Old Business, regular meetings only<\/p><\/li><li><p class=\"p1\">New Business, regular meetings only<\/p><\/li><li><p class=\"p1\">Fire Chief\u2019s Report to the Board, regular meeting only<\/p><\/li><li><p class=\"p1\">Public Comment, both annual &amp; regular meetings<\/p><\/li><li><p class=\"p1\">Adjournment<\/p><\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><p class=\"p1\">Special or Emergency Agenda:<\/p><ul><li><p class=\"p1\">Call the Meeting to Order<\/p><\/li><li><p class=\"p1\">The Board shall only address the matter that was detailed in the \u201cNotice\u201d given to the Board Members<\/p><\/li><li><p class=\"p1\">\u00a0Adjournment.<\/p><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><p class=\"p1\">Terms:<\/p><ul><li class=\"p1\">Two (2) years each (staggered so only half the BOD is elected each year)<\/li><li class=\"p1\">No term limits (you can be re-elected)<\/li><li class=\"p1\">Eight (8) members total<\/li><li class=\"p1\">If a vacancy occurs and the term is still active, a new member can fill that slot until the term expires if elected by a majority vote.<\/li><\/ul><p class=\"p1\">Elections:<\/p><ul><li class=\"p1\">Elections held at the Annual Meeting (4th Tuesday of June)<\/li><li class=\"p1\">Secret ballot<\/li><\/ul><p class=\"p1\">Officers:<\/p><ul><li class=\"p1\">Elected through a majority vote.<ul><li class=\"p1\">Chairperson: Presides over meetings, serves as president of corporation\/Department, signs docs<\/li><li class=\"p1\">Vice Chairperson: Serves as president in chairperson\u2019s absentia; vice-president of corporation\/department<\/li><li class=\"p1\">Secretary\/Treasurer: Takes minutes\/maintains financials<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li class=\"p1\">May be removed when requested by two (2) or more BOD and approved with a majority vote.<\/li><\/ul><p class=\"p1\">How to Apply:<\/p><ul><li class=\"p1\">Visit the Department, Monday-Friday between 9am-4pm for an application.<\/li><li class=\"p1\">Submit a BOD application at the May BOD meeting or to a BOD member 30-days before (but no more than 45-days before) the Annual Meeting (4th Tuesday of June)<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Board Members Board Member Name Position Name PRESIDENT Name VICE PRESIDENT Name TREASURE \/ SECRETARY Name Name Name Name Becoming a member of the Board of Directors The Department\u2019s business and affairs will be managed by a Board of Directors (BOD).
