Letter from the Chief

Hello from the Harmony Volunteer Fire Department (VFD)!

As Fire Chief, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our new site as you learn more about us and what we do to serve and protect the community we love, and the people who live, visit, and learn our historic hometown.

I hope you will enjoy reading about our founding and history that began more than 80 years ago, as well as feel excited about the future of your Harmony VFD.

We are fortunate to have a talented force of men and women who choose to serve and protect you.

The Harmony VFD serves the communities of Harmony, Turnersburg, and Olin in our fire district, which has a 6 mile radius. In our district, you will find many homes,  four (4) schools, 65 chicken houses, 66 farms/dairy barns, 25 churches ,and numerous other businesses. It is our honor and duty to serve and protect the entire area by offering fire protection and fire suppression.

Our firefighters do both well, but they also do so much more — including attending fire calls at automotive accidents, responding to fire alarms, addressing bomb threats, and assisting on medical calls.

Our firefighters serve the public by cutting trees out of roadways during storms, assisting  in flood conditions, and going to the schools to teach  children about the fire service, chimney checks, and smoke detectors.

We have a collection of amazing volunteer firefighters, as well as two paid firefighters at Harmony Station, Monday – Friday, from 6:00am-5:00pm. We are here to serve and assist you.  Our volunteer firefighters give their time and talent to the Department because they truly care about their neighbors and this community. Each one has completed the required training requirements to serve.

We pay for and provide training to all of our volunteer firefighters. Because of the increasing costs  and the growing population, this means we continue to need support for the Fire Department to operate efficiently.

Iredell County is lucky to have some of the best fire departments in NC, including our very own Harmony VFD.  We appreciate all the support from the community and are proud to serve you. Our current fundraisers are a picture drive and BBQs in November & May. We hope to see you at one or all of them!
