The West Yadkin Fire Department is the primary agency for emergency services in the West Yadkin Fire District. Our department provides service for Fire Suppression, Technical Rescue, EMS, Haz-Mat, and Fire Prevention & Education.
Our station has a staff and membership of dedicated and highly trained professionals including both volunteer and career firefighters. The West Yadkin Fire District is located in western Yadkin County, NC in the Piedmont Triad region of Northwest NC. The fire station is located at 3205 US-21 in Hamptonville, NC.
Our primary service area consists of a 45 square mile district that includes parts of Hamptonville, Yadkinville, and Boonville. The West Yadkin Fire Department is first due in the West Yadkin Fire District and also responds to neighboring fire districts through mutual aid agreements. In turn each of these departments respond to assist in West Yadkin.
In Yadkin County, four departments are initially dispatched to all reported structure fires. Our first alarm assignment area for reported structure fires and/or fire alarms is over 135 square miles when combining our primary service district and all automatic aid response areas where we are called.
Our department is one of the busiest in Yadkin County with an average response total of over 600 calls for service each year.
The West Yadkin Fire Department operates out of one station and has an apparatus fleet consisting of 6 apparatus. The department has a membership of approximately 30 volunteers including a staff of part-time employed personnel. The majority of our personnel have various NC Fire/Rescue Certifications including NC Firefighter, NC Rescue (Various Specialties), NC EMT-B, NC Driver Operator Pumps & Aerial, EVD, NC RIT, NC Fire Officer, NC Fire & Rescue Instructor, NC Chief 101, NC Wildland Fire Suppression, and NC Fire and Life Safety Educators.
The West Yadkin Fire Department employs two personnel from 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday and one person on Saturdays and Sundays. These staffed personnel aid in providing a fast response during the hours that most volunteer members are away at their respective employers and are unable to respond to emergency calls with the department.
Employed personnel with the department must meet or exceed a minimum certification/qualification standard. These requirements are listed under the paid applicants section of the application process page. In addition we have volunteer staffing incentives for our volunteer members who pull day or night shifts at the station to provide additional manpower with the paid staff or to provide coverage outside 8am to 5pm. This also allows us to respond quickly with apparatus from the station regardless of the time of day.
The majority of our members have full time jobs and then work part time or volunteer with the department. This can add up to a lot of time away from their home and families.
In addition to providing our community with a fast response by staffed personnel, we have our volunteer members who will be responding to the station and emergency scenes in their personal vehicles. This is how the majority of our members arrive to an emergency. These members may or may not be in a fire department uniform or shirt because they could have been doing anything from eating to working around their home when the emergency came in and stopped whatever it was they were doing to respond.
Our department and the men and women that make it up are dedicated to providing a fast response to emergencies and are pursuing every option and resource to ensure we accomplish that goal.
